The Center for Multicultural Education and Programs (CMEP) carries on and enhances the tradition of its predecessor, the Office for African American, Latino, and Asian American Student Services (OASIS), created in 1988 in response to the expressed needs of students of color for more University administrative support and commitment. Our new name connotes an enhanced, expanded role in which the Center will work more closely and collaboratively with the schools of NYU, the Provost’s Office, and other administrative areas to support an inclusive and welcoming environment for all students.
The new Center is a catalyst in the realization of the Provost’s goal of "making diversity everyone’s business" at NYU. To demonstrate this increased institutional commitment, NYU created a new Director position to provide leadership for developing and implementing the Center's overall vision. Furthermore, with the addition of a new Program Administrator for Diversity Education, the Center will help and prepare all students to successfully navigate and contribute to an increasingly diverse and global society.
In keeping with our history of support and commitment to underrepresented groups on campus, bringing new opportunities for growth and broader cultural change to an even wider audience will open a new chapter for the campus community. The major program goals for the Center

Additionally, The Center has a new student lounge offering a much-needed common area for student programming, community gatherings, group study, and includes computer resources.
